For the second year in a row, Alex Ramos, Founder and President of the
Retired Boxers Foundation, joined Michael Bradburn of Camarillo Boxing
and Fitness Center to help out at the 3rd Annual Ventura County “Battle
of the Badges.” Mike Bradburn sent out a big THANK YOU to Alex Ramos,
and Jacquie Richardson, for their assistance at this year's 3rd annual
Battle of The Badges, held at Port Hueneme Pavilion.
They were in New
Mexico, on Friday, flew in Saturday, just to attend this event. Mike and
Alex trained Fireman Mike Fuller, and were in his corner for his 2nd
round TKO win last night. Oh what a night, Thanks to Martin Gillitt our
other cornerman. This was a charity event Benefitting the boy's and
Girl's Club's. Bradburn loves giving back to this Organization, because
this is where he started his Boxing career. Laced Up and Alex Ramos are
partners in promoting the Retired Boxers Foundation as the “Undisputed
Champions of Dignity!” Fireman Mike Fuller won his bout in 2010 and
again in 2011.
Oceanview Pavilion proudly presented the 3rd Annual charity boxing
challenge, “Battle of the Badges”. The proceeds will be donated to the
Boys & Girls Clubs of Oxnard and Port Hueneme, Oxnard Police Activities
League and the Volunteers in Policing. The event was held in Port
Hueneme, CA on Saturday, December 3rd. The charity boxing event featured
deputy sheriffs and police officers versus firefighters from Ventura
County.
This was a collaboration of efforts done in the spirit of giving by the
Oceanview Pavilion and public safety professionals throughout Ventura
County including the Oxnard Police Officers Association, Ventura County
Deputy Sheriffs Association, Oxnard Firefighters Association and Ventura
County Professional Firefighters Association.
Law enforcement officers and firefighters from Ventura County are
training for Battle of the Badges III, a charity boxing event Saturday
to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme,
which serve more than 7,000 youths a year.
"What makes the Battle of the Badges unique is that it feeds on the
good-natured rivalry between cops and firefighters by pitting them
against each other in the boxing ring," said Rick Shimmel, executive
director of the Ventura County Deputy Sheriffs' Association and a
licensed amateur boxing promoter.
The bouts were sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission as
amateur fights. Boxers will come from the county fire and sheriff's
departments, and Oxnard and Port Hueneme police departments.
Event organizers hope to raise at least $18,000 to benefit the Boys &
Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard & Port Hueneme.
Money was raised to go to support the youth, our future America, at the
Boys & Girls Clubs of Oxnard and Port Hueneme and the Oxnard Police
Activities League.
The official sponsor for the event is the Oceanview Pavilion and current
sponsors included B95.1 FM, Coastal Events, F. Morton Pitt Company,
Rusty’s and Dynamite Printing.
